Straight From The Horses Mouth
I listened to Ben Bernanke's press conference a week ago and I found what he said to be logical and not as all as dramatic or scary as the subsequent news headlines seemed to portray.

http://www.federalreserve.gov/mediacenter/media.htm

As an investor, I find it extremely interesting and useful to listen to or read the original version of things like this. Hysterical market moments are often opportunities to purchase some of the long term investments I'm interested in at attractive prices. Because of the internet, we can read original transcripts almost as soon as events happen and can make our own decisions on how we feel our investments might be impacted. Here is a link to the actual minutes from the Federal Open Market Committees latest meeting.

http://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/fomcminutes20130501.htm

It includes an interesting staff summary of the state of the economy as well as the perspectives of some of the members of the board on the issues they see in their regions.

I encourage you to spend some time taking advantage of material like this that you can get "straight from the horses mouth".

As Morgan Housel describes here:

Why I'm an Optimist

Things are often not nearly as bad as they are made out to be when they happen. Take a little time to use original information available to you to stay informed about current events. It may mean you will see an opportunity to purchase good investments at attractive prices while everyone else is panicking because of headlines created by writers with hidden agendas.

Hi Laurie,

Thank you for reminding me that there is always a horse's mouth and even more for telling me where to go to hear what came out to start all that commenting.  Pretty often my reaction to a disturbing or puzzling story is to look for another opinion, but as you showed me, a better first step would be to find out what the horse had to say.

Thank you Ed.

I think we all need to keep reminding ourselves that we don't have to get our information second hand anymore.

A good analogy I heard that I think about often is to think about news reports you read about a sporting event you've attended or even watched. Sometimes it is easy to wonder if the reporters have attended the same game as you did!

WOW Bennie is doing such a great job.

He should double the funny money every month.

Think how much better the county would do.

$85 billion dollars of funny money being printed every month.

23 million people out of work or working part time.

50 million people on food stamps.

13 million people on disability benefits. Up 5 million since

Obammie took over.

17 trillion national debt and growing every day. Exceeds our GDP

100 trillion in unfunded pensions etc.

I should also mention how great the Unaffordale Health Care Act

will be.

Cities going bellyup. This will help the bond market.

There is much more that I could add.

Only a fool could believe this will all end well.

Our club was started in 1963. We have over 4 and a half million dollars

It is listed for public view on Manifest Investing.

NONE of these problems existed when we started our Club.

But not to worry.

Everything is going to turn out great because we have Bennie B.

He will save us.

I'm sorry. I appreciate insightful thoughts that everyone contributes that show their perspective on a topic and their reasons for it.

I think, however that we need the ground rule that this be done without calling anyone names.

I am sorry if you are frustrated, but I will ask all of you to refrain from ranting on this discussion list.
