Finally comfortable with details after a year Read books, manuals, and web (see next slides) Install ten times by hand Configuration is programming, not scripting Separate scripts for tablespaces, tables, constraints/indexes Plan on redoing physical mapping Avoid redoing logical schema (narrow tables) Write programs to upgrade schema/data (check upgrade version) Preallocate tablespaces (monitor freespace) Index everything (esp. foreign keys, else locks parent table)
