NWSA and FOXA

Our club previously owned 196 shares of Newscorp Corporation (NWSA) stock.  We sold 96 shares before the spinoff of Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. (FOXA) in July 2013.  Now, TD Ameritrade shows us with 100 shares of FOXA at a cost of $15.008 and 25 of NWSA at a cost of $60.032.  Investment Account Manager shows us with 100 shares of FOXA at a cost of $30.19 and 25 shares of NWSA at a cost of $15.16.   Bivio has us with 100 shares of FOXA at a cost basis per share of $13.4241 and 25 shares of NWSA at a cost basis per share of $6.9432.  Help!  Does anyone know which is correct?

Dear Jenny-Sue,

The cost basis numbers in bivio have been entered according to the information provided by the company for allocating cost basis and are correct. You can find that information here:

http://newscorpcom.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/separation-cost-basis.pdf

As you will see in the writeup, 88.55% of your original basis should have stayed with the FOXA shares and 11.45% went with the NWSA shares. The bivio numbers reflect that.

The TDAmeritrade information doesn't look correct because the total cost basis you have provided in this message doesn't add up to the cost basis you had in your shares prior to the reorganization.

The Investment account manager information looks totally wrong.

This was a confusing reorganization because of the way the names were changed on the shares. The old name went with the new shares and the new name went with the old shares.

It took a while for the form 8937 linked to above to be available, so other sources may not have caught up yet.

The only other thing that would affect your bivio numbers is the fact that you had two lots of the original shares. If you sold different shares than have been identified in bivio, it would mean the bivio numbers might need to be corrected.

I'd recommend you compare the cost basis shown by TDAmeritrade on the sale of the 96 shares with what is shown in bivio. If it differs, send the details to support@bivio.com and we'll help you get your records adjusted.

Hope that helps.
